Nutrition Counselling

Feeding is the first skill of parenting — and the most questioned. From breastfeeding to the teenage appetite, we turn the noise of advice into a calm, practical plan that fits your child and your kitchen.

Why nutrition counselling

Small plates, big consequences.

What a child eats between birth and school age shapes immunity, growth, concentration and lifelong eating habits. Yet most feeding problems — the child who won't eat, who eats too much, who is always 'weak', who has anemia — are managed with more worry and less plan.

Nutrition counselling at Happy Kids Clinic is a proper consultation: growth plotted, intake discussed honestly (including what the child actually eats, not what the plan says), and a practical roadmap built for your family's routine, budget and food culture.

“We never chase a single 'miracle food'. We build a plate, a rhythm and a calm that lasts.”

— The counselling principle

By age & stage

Feeding, at every season of childhood.

  1. 0–6 months

    Milk only

Exclusive breastfeeding — latch, positions, supply worries, and knowing exactly when (and whether) a top-up is genuinely needed.

  2. 6–12 months

    The weaning window

Starting solids right — iron-rich first foods, textures by month, allergens introduced early and safely, and the messy months handled with patience.

  3. 1–3 years

    The picky years

Appetite dips are normal; feeding battles are optional. Structured meals, 'division of responsibility' and gentle strategies that actually end the food wars.

  4. 4–6 years

    School-age fuel

Lunchboxes, screen-time snacking, milk refusal, juice overload — recalibrating habits before they become teenage problems.

  5. 7 years +

    The growth years

Calcium, iron, vitamin D and protein for the growth spurt; healthy weight, eating disorders awareness, and body-image-positive conversations.

When to visit

When feeding needs help

A little pickiness is normal. These patterns are worth a proper conversation — the earlier, the easier.

  • WeightWeight sliding off the growth channel over several visits
  • Limited dietAccepting fewer than roughly 10–15 foods overall
  • TexturesGagging, choking or vomiting at new textures
  • BattlesMealtimes that end in tears — theirs and yours — every day
  • Deficiency signsPale, tired, or poor appetite — possible anemia or deficiency
  • After illnessFood refusal that started after an illness or a choking scare
Good to know: A feeding consultation looks at the whole picture — medical, developmental and behavioural — not just the plate.

The picky eater

Win the war by refusing to fight it.

Most picky eating is a normal phase that parents accidentally turn into a battle. Here's the calm alternative.

What usually works

  • Keep offering — it takes 10–15 exposures for a new food to be accepted
  • Let the child decide how much; you decide what's on the table
  • Eat together; children copy your plate before they obey your words
  • Involve them — washing, pouring, choosing between two good options
  • Keep mealtimes under 20–25 minutes and free of screens

When to consult us

  • Weight falling off their growth channel
  • Accepting fewer than ~10–15 foods overall
  • Gagging, choking or vomiting at textures
  • Food refusal after an illness or a choking scare
  • Pale, tired, or delayed growth — possible deficiency

A feeding consultation looks at the whole picture — medical, developmental and behavioural — not just the plate.
