Newborn Care
The first days and weeks set the tone for a lifetime of health. We walk them with you — feeding, weight, jaundice, sleep and the thousand small questions that keep new parents awake at night.
The first weeks
Small days, significant details.
In the first month, a baby's health is written in small signs — a feeding pattern, a weight curve, the shade of a jaundice, the tone of a cry. As a neonatology-trained pediatrician, Dr. Bhise reads those signs early, and explains them in ways parents can act on.
Newborn visits at Happy Kids Clinic are deliberately unhurried. Bring every question — about breastfeeding, sleep, bathing, cord care, relatives' advice, anything. There is no such thing as a silly question in the first month.
- Complete newborn examination — head to toe, systems reviewed
- Weight, length & head circumference plotted from day one
- Feeding review and latch assessment with practical fixes
- Jaundice monitoring with clear 'when to worry' guidance
- Immunization planning — birth doses and the 6-week visit
The essentials
Six things every newborn needs done right.
-
01
Exclusive breastfeeding
Breastmilk alone for the first six months — supported with latch checks and realistic troubleshooting.
-
02
Weight tracking
Weekly weight in the first month. A steady curve is the single best sign of health.
-
03
Jaundice watch
Most newborn jaundice is normal; some needs a light. We monitor the shade, not just the worry.
-
04
Cord & skin care
Simple, evidence-based care for the cord stump, nappy area and baby skin — no fads.
-
05
Safe sleep
Back to sleep, firm surface, no soft bedding — the quiet habits that prevent the unthinkable.
-
06
Kangaroo care
Skin-to-skin contact — warmth, bonding and stability that no machine can replace.

Newborn FAQs
New parent worries, answered.
Ideally within the first week after birth — or earlier if the baby was premature, low birth weight, or had any issues at delivery. If you've already been discharged, call us and we'll schedule it at the earliest.
On demand — typically 8–12 feeds in 24 hours. The real measures are wet nappies (6+ a day after day 5), steady weight gain, and a settled, alert baby between feeds. We'll review all three at each visit.
Most newborn jaundice is physiological and harmless, peaking around day 4–5. But it needs monitoring — especially the pattern, the baby's feeding and activity. If it spreads to the arms and legs or the baby is sleepy and feeding poorly, call us.
Bring the advice with you — literally. We'll go through each piece calmly: what's safe, what's outdated, and what to do instead. Our only loyalty is to evidence and to your baby.
Yes — call or WhatsApp the clinic number. Urgent queries are prioritised. For life-threatening emergencies, go to the nearest emergency facility or call 108 first.
